Avoiding a Scary Dental Bill this Hallowe’en!October 28, 2015
It’s nearly that time of year again—a time when ghouls and goblins step out of their homes and roam the neighbourhoods looking for treats (and maybe pulling a few tricks!). That’s right, Hallowe’en is just around the corner! And if you’re anything like me, you love the sweet treats that are given out at this time of year just as much as your kids do, but before you grab a few mini candy bars and dig in, it’s important to make sure you’ve got the protection you and your loved ones need for your teeth. I’m talking, of course, about dental insurance. In this post, we’re going to discus the importance of dental insurance, and how it can help ensure you and your family are protected from an expensive bill after your next appointment.
Dental Insurance: Valuable for All Nova Scotians
Dental insurance can provide powerful piece of mind all year long, not just at Hallowe’en or other holidays that are flush with sugary treats. A basic check-up alone can be very expensive without insurance, so if additional work needs to be completed, you run the risk of having to choose between positive oral health, and sometimes spending thousands of dollars on proper treatment.
You may also be aware that most provinces cover basic dental procedures for children 16 years of age and under. While this is a fantastic service, the important thing to keep in mind is that “basic coverage” does not mean “all coverage.” If your child needs additional orthodontic treatment such as braces, that’s a financial cost that can be greatly reduced by including dental as part of your health insurance policy.
An Elements Plan Takes the Guess Work out of Dental Insurance in Nova Scotia
Elements Health Insurance Plans from Blue Cross are renowned for their simplicity, flexibility, and ability to adapt to your ever-changing life. When you obtain an Elements plan, you have the option of choosing between three different levels of dental coverage. These levels are:
Entry – This level provides 60% coverage up to $500 per year for dental exams, two units of cleaning, x-rays, and fillings.
Essential – A step up from the entry-level plan, this coverage provides 70% coverage with no maximum for dental exams, as well as two units of cleaning, x-rays, fillings, extractions and root canals.
Enhanced – The most comprehensive level of dental coverage available from Elements, with an Enhanced plan, you have access to 80% coverage for everything offered through an Essential plan, as well as 60% coverage (or $500 per year) on major dental work, 60% coverage (or $1200 per year) on periodontal services, and 60% coverage (or $1500 lifetime) on orthodontics for children age 18 and younger.
These levels of coverage can be changed as your circumstances change, meaning you’ll never have to worry about whether or not you have the appropriate level of dental insurance for you and your loved ones.
